BANGALORE: Though his wedding was grand and he was given a Mercedes Benz and gold ornaments,  his greed for dowry did not end. Eventually, he has landed in jail following a dowry harassment case filed against him by his wife.

Girish Gowda (27), an industrialist and a resident of Ravi Kirloskar Layout near Chikkabidirakallu off Tumkur Road, is the arrested person. He has been arrested by Subramanyanagar police after his wife Ashwini (20), a resident of Gayatrinagar  filed a case against him.

The police are on the look out for Girish’s father K K Ramakrishna, his wives Komala Bai and Sunanda, who are also accused in the case.

According to the police, their wedding was held at White Petals in Palace Grounds on May 22 last year. During marriage, Ashwini’s mothers-in-law had allegedly demanded 1.5 kg of gold jewels and 3 kg silver articles. Girish had demanded 600 grams of gold ornaments and a Mercedes Benz car worth Rs 65 lakh. Ashwini’s parents had given all these and the total expenditure for wedding was about Rs 2.7 crore.

“But Girish and his parents were allegedly not content with it and demanded more dowry harassing her mentally and physically. Girish was a drunkard wanted her to get half of her father’s  property transferred to his name. He also tried to kill her by strangulating and his parents threatened her of dire consequences,” the police explained.
