BANGALORE :Karnataka State Minorities Commission which carried out a raid on a Muslim orphanage, an institution under the Karnataka State Wakf Board on December 31, has claimed to have found out illegal activities in the orphanage.

The Commission has made serious charges like ill-treatment of girl inmates, misuse of funds and donations, homosexual activities by some senior members of the orphanage with the support of wardens, tutors and executive officers of the board.

The members of the commission along with Director of Women and Child Welfare had conducted an inspection on the orphanage on December 31 and noticed that indiscipline and uncultured mannerisms of the inmates and absolute lack of supervision of the wardens.

Speaking to reporters, Anwar Manpaddy, Chairman, Karnataka State Minorities Commission said, “We inspected the   the orphanage and interacted with the inmates. After assessing the prevailing conditions, we learnt that the hostel inmates were not looked after properly and there was a clear violation of the Juvenile Justice Act 2000.”

Anwar also alleged that the Wakf Board has failed to respond to the queries by the State Child Rights Commission in connection with the death of an 11-year-old destitute girl Hajira Bi.
