BANGALORE: A 14-year-old girl committed suicide by setting herself ablaze at her residence in Madavara village near Nelamangala on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Ranjitha, a ninth standard student at Nelamangala government school. She was the daughter of Ramesh, a former Gram Panchayat member.

According to the police, the girl’s parents had gone out on some work in the morning and she was alone at home.

When two of her friends went home to take her to school, the door was closed.

As she did not respond their  calls and knocking on the door, they informed the neighbours, who opened a window and noticed Ranjitha had set herself on fire after pouring kerosene.

“Some of her neighbours have seen her walking in front of the house wearing school uniform just before the incident. The reason for the suicide has to be investigated,”  the police added.

No suicide note was found in the house.

Madanayakanahalli police have registered a case of  unnatural death.
