BANGALORE: Every time you log into Bangalore University’s website, if web pages not found or contact the administrator alerts respond to your queries, then the silver lining for better online communiation is on the cards.

In an attempt to give the varsity a fresh look, BU has started working on a brand new website, for which VC Dr N Prabhu Dev has set January 16 as the deadline.

“A website is the mirror of any university. We have roped in an external agency to design website. Tenders were floated three months ago,” said the VC. He added that the frequent technical glitch had perturbed him as well. “I am forced to use my personal email id as my work email, as the University’s website does not work,” he said.

A committee was formed by him to over look at the smooth transition of all the necessary information from the University’s  departments to the agency. “Transmission of information from the respective departments caused the delay in the launch of the website,” said the VC. “We hope to meet the deadline but in worst scenario, the launch will take place by January 20,” he added.

With almost `3 crore set aside, the new website will be the first step towards administering large-scale e-Governance across the University. “We are looking at bringing in e-Governance into BU, so much that we envisage students accessing answer scripts on our website. The website will be student-friendly and there will be transparency in the University’s administratio. Details of departmental activities and financial records will be uploaded on the site,” said the head of the committee.

He added, “Most of the work is done. Sourcing of information from the departments on to a common server is pending. On the technical end, everything is ready,” he said.

The new website is likely to sport the looks of an American university’s website, with interactive features. Sources said that the new website will be a lead up to digitisation of internal, external and affiliation aspects of the BU’s administration.
