BANGALORE: Rashtra Gaurava Samrakshana Parishath (RGSP) is silently working to inculcate a sense of patriotism among youths by publishing calendars about veteran freedom fighters mostly revolutionary leaders. Established in the year 2004, the parishat has been distributing such calendars free to students of both Karnataka and Goa.

It has also published patriotic calendars along with patriotic alphabetic charts. The process of publishing the calendars began in 2009 under the name ‘Salute to revolutionary freedom fighters’.

The calendar implies that it is must for the students who are born in the country to know the history of the nation and leaders who fought and became martyrs during the freedom struggle.

Speaking to Express, T N Ramakrishna, President of the parishat said “We have already reached out to more than 1,75,000 students and 6,000 teachers and lecturers directly by way of holding patriotic functions through the parishat since its inception. From the year 2009 we started distributing calendars and have covered more than 280 schools and colleges across Karnataka and Cochin”

He said that these kind of initiatives are taken up to make people especially students aware about the sacrifices and contributions of revolutionaries for our country. From past three years, through the calendar the contribution of more than 120 revolutionaries have been published in detail.

“The works of many revolutionaries are not known. We refer to all sorts of books and collect information on the revolutionaries. We also speak to freedom fighters who are alive and get to know about the contribution of the revolutionaries,” added Ramakrishna.
