BANGALORE: Come January 20, all roads lead to the Glass House in Lalbagh Botanical Gardens. Around 10 lakh visitors are expected to visit the gardens and see a visual treat, thanks to the Mysore Horticultural Society.
The flower show is the 100th exhibition of the Mysore Horticultural Society that was started by the then Superintendent of Lalbagh G H Krumbiegal in 1912. The Society, in association with Horticulture Department, has decided to make the occasion a memorable one. The Society is geared up to exhibit a mega heritage floral installation of Buddha Sharira Stupa for world peace and unification.
The other added attraction will be a floral peacock inside the Glass House. “We are leaving no stone unturned to make this flower show a mega success,’’ says Srikantaiah, Council Member, Mysore Horticulture Society.
The flower show is expected to cost the Society more than Rs 35 lakh. According to Srikantaiah, the flower show will showcase Indian floral art, Ike-Bana, vegetable carving, Dutch art, Thai art, dry flowers, Janur Arrangement, and Bonsai creations on January 20 and 21.
The exorbitant costs of organising this festival will bear no effect on the entry fee. A visitor has to pay 0 on January 20, 21, 23, 24, 25, 27 and 28 and Rs 40 on January 22, 26 and 29. The entry fee for children below 12 years is Rs 10 on all days during the exhibition. “We have decided not to collect extra money from the visitors. The entry fee will be on par with the amount collected for earlier flower shows,’’ said M Jagadeesh, Secretary, The Mysore Horticultural Society.
The entry fee for a car with one person is Rs 50, and Rs 80 for two persons, Rs 110 for three persons, Rs140 for four persons, Rs170 for five persons, 200 for six persons, Rs 260 for eight persons and Rs 380 for a Tempo Traveller. The tickets will be sold at Lalbagh Main Gate, Double Road Gate, Siddapura Gate and Basavanagudi Gate. The entry for all vehicles with tickets will be on Double Road and Siddapura Gate.
It was said that the flower show held last January had attracted 568 participants. “We expect around 600 participants this year,’’ said Jagadeesh.
There will be trophies, shields and rolling cups for the winners. “The first prize for those participating in competition at the Glass House is a silver shield,’’ said Srikantaiah.
The flower show is expected to be inaugurated at 3 pm on January 20.
