BANGALORE: In a tragic incident, a nine-year-old boy died after accidentally falling into a sump in the school premises while trying to fetch water from it. The incident was reported in the government lower primary school in Bhaktharahalli of Hosakote taluk in the outskirts of the city on Friday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Satish, a third standard student in the same school. He was the eldest son of Chandrachari and Manjula, who are labourers. According to the police, Satish along with his younger brother,came to school around 9 am. Meanwhile, a sump in the school was not closed and the boy went near it to fetch water. He accidentally fell into it and his brother’s scream for help went in vain as there were only a few students when the incident occurred.

Following the incident, the parents of the boy alleged that that the school authorities were responsible for the boy’s death.

They also alleged that the students were made to fetch water from the sump by teachers whenever they required it.
