BANGALORE: Deputy Mayor S Harish on Friday said that Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has promised to extend all facilities available under the Vajpayee Arogya Shree programme for the welfare of orchestra artistes.

Speaking at a function organised by Akhila Karnataka Vadyagoshti Kalavidara Mahasangha to launch pension scheme for artistes here, he said that the BBMP had given `2 lakh to the mahasangha for its various activities.

Association President Gururaj said the orchestra artistes will soon get `500 as pension. He said the association had been providing economical support for the artistes since last 10 years. Plans are afoot to provide houses and 10 per cent rebate on medical expenses to association members by tying up with medical stores.  

There are more than 200 orchestra troupes in the state who are not part of the association. Only a few from Bangalore and Mysore have obtained membership of the association. “We want artistes of all other orchestra troupes to become members to avail facilities”, he added.

He said that they were financially supporting artistes who are suffering from serious illness and victims of accidents. Veteran actors and owners of the various orchestra troupes were honoured by the association.
