Though for most the winter is on its last leg, it is definitely not the case for Delhi based designer, Manish Gupta. The designer was recently in town to launch two new collections —  fusion Autumn/Winter (A/W) collection and an Indianised high-end luxury line.

While most other fashion designers are working on the coming season’s line, Gupta is literally multitasking. Though his A/W collection came out a tad late, his Spring/Summer is already in production and will be unveiled end of February. He says, “Winters is not yet over. There is still a month to go. So it makes sense to launch the collection. The launch got delayed as I was unable to come to the city any sooner. Bangalore was the last city where the line was launched.”

The colour palette for A/W  comprise shades like teals, blue, gold, black, red and grey.  The designer has used three-dimensional techniques to add subtle detailing to his garments. “I have used ribbons, mohair, dori, metal disc and applique, to give each and every piece an appealing look,” he informs. Fabrics like georgette’s, silks, chanderis and wool have been used to create silhouettes ranging from fitted, panelled, A-line cuts and dresses with pleats with tucks thus making it perfect for the season.

Meanwhile his luxury line is a combination of panelled kurtas and straight-fit kurtas which have been crafted with pearls and sequences. Speaking about his creations, Gupta says, “Sophisticated designs that compliment a modern women’s grandeur have always been my inspiration. I have always visualised feminity as being synonymous with sophistication, élan and elegance. I enjoy integrating uncommon materials and techniques into inventive patterns and shapes that translate into a globally voguish look. With an aim to create fresh designs, I experiment a lot with various kinds of embroideries, textures and fabrics. In an attempt to create an ageless wardrobe the clothes designed by me follow a distinct style of flawless tailoring, exquisite embellishments and a

perfect finish.”

He also informs that what makes his A/W collection stand apart from his previous work is the techniques that he has experimented with. “I believe in subtle embellishments. Something that is not in your face. I have used and combined different kinds of yarns, tapes and laces to created the 3D effect,” he adds.

Gupta will also be bringing his Spring/Summer collection to Bangalore. “That line will be launched by the end of February,” he reveals. In the coming collection the designer has kept ivory as his base with a combination of contrasting colours patterns and motifs. While his silhouettes remain a constant, his embellishments are fresh and new. The summer line will see a lot of resham embrodiery and wooden beads that have been tastefully used to accessorise the outfits. Gupta’s collections are available at Collage.
