BAGALORE: Adulation and admiration surrounded the Army personnel and their families at the Madras Engineering Group (MEG) when 58 awards for Gallantry and Distinguished Service was bestowed upon the soldiers of the Indian Army in the city. 58 medals were presented to these soldiers in an investiture ceremony held as part of the Army Day celebrations on Sunday.

Pointing out an upcoming trend of young officers leading from the front, Lt General A K Singh, General Officer Commanding (GOC-Southern Command) termed them true leaders. “There were many junior officers who were recipients of Gallantry awards, which shows how they lead from the front,” he said and  acknowledged that they were inspiration to everyone in Army.

Wives and family members of officers who died in the line of duty were also present during the occasion. Five medals were presented. The various medals presented on the occasion of the 64th Army day included 1 Yuddh, 30 Sena Medal (Gallantry) and 5 Sena Medals (Distinguished service), 21 Vishisht Seva Medals and 11 Unit citations.
