On top of the world

BANGALORE: City-based student Richa Chandru Bhavanam has topped the Cambridge A Level examinations conducted across the world. She pursued her education at Centre for Learning, which offers Cambridge University’s programmes and qualifications. She emerged as ‘Top in the World’ in sociology and psychology in Cambridge A Level examinations, which is equivalent to Pre-University examinations in Karnataka.

City Express spoke to Richa about her career, hobbies and future plans.

She had a flair for studying people and society. This encouraged her to opt for the subjects like sociology and psychology. She said, “I was always interested in humanities and that inspired me to take up this course and work towards it. This also gave me an opportunity to gain knowledge about different societies and also about personalities.”

Recalling the days when she had to study for long hours, she said, “During exams, it was very difficult for me to remember the content as it was in bulk. But I always gave my best.”

The course, according to Richa, was flexible. Richa’s parents C Chandrashekar and Roopa guided and supported her decisions. She added, “My parents have been supportive throughout. Teachers too helped me solve academic problems and supported me morally.”

Richa is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy at St. Stephen’s College, New Delhi. Explaining her choice of subject, she said, “Philosophy is a culmination of many subjects. It is the base for many other subjects. I always wanted to study discussion-based subjects rather than lecture-based ones.”

She eventually wants to “explore the field of photography and journalism”.
