Sports Festival-2012, a sports and cultural event for the differently abled including people with autistic and people with multiple disabilities.

It will be organised at Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore on January 23 and 24 by Sports and Cultural Academy for Mentally Challenged. The event will be inaugurated at 10.30 am on January 23. Bangalore Mahanagara Palike Deputy Mayor Harish, actor-director Prem and several other dignitaries will be present on the occasion.

The Sports and Cultural Academy for Mentally Challenged, affiliated to Karnataka Athletics Association believes that differently- abled people can be brought into the mainstream of the society and was formed for this very purpose.

The Academy has organised several programmes for the differently-abled during the last two years. Based on their ability, the differently- abled people are grouped into people with higher ability and people with lower abilities. Cultural and sports events are conducted for them accordingly.

Sports for people with higher level of ability are conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations as applicable to normal people.

This is an effort to bring realistic talent in the participant.

During the sports event, competition will be held in 100 metres, 200 metres, 400 metres, 400 x 400 metres relay, shot putt, long jump and high jump events.

The participants are based on age—12 to 16 years, 17 to 20 years, 21 to 25 years and above 25 years. There are separate categories for men and women. More than 30 institutions have registered for the event which will witness more than 450 participants.

The programme will be executed by a team of 150 assistants, 100 volunteers and over 50 sports officials.

The valedictory and the prize distribution ceremony will be held of January 24.
