‘The future lies in internet radio’

At 45, Nelson Rogers, Director of Millennium Ad Media Private Limited, is a man of good taste. A beetle car, a Harley Davidson bike, papyrus paintings from Egypt on the walls, red colour themed office space resembling prosperity and a passion for doing things differently as a profession, has seen him grow from a vernacular actor to someone who has a futuristic outlook of life using technology. Having travelled around the world and learning from each experience, he has brought and practically implemented those learning coupled with his passion to give Bangalore and India, a real rendezvous with technology of the future. He speaks to Vyas Sivanand about his new venture.

What has been your specialisation and when did you start Millennium Ad Media?

I have been in the movie field for the past 29 years, especially Tamil and Kannada. I was an actor, production manager, producer and then director involved mainly in ad films and documentary. I started the advertising agency, Millennium Ad Media, about 11 years ago. Other than traditional agency work, we provide specialised products like ad films and jingles. We have made our name mainly in the retail segment and the top retail players are our clients. We have done work for print, television, radio and events and are even involved in taking industrial photographs.

Why did you think of setting up your own studio?

It was always my dream to have complete freedom in whatever I do, be it creativity, infrastructure or even financial aspects. That is when I started to think about my own studio and infrastructure where I can use my creativity in complete freedom. I have launched the state-of-the-art studio on May 19th. I will be launching the Internet radio and Internet television on June 17th.

What will be the offering from your studio?

This will be a one-stop solution for music albums, jingles, videos and dubbing. Apart from this, we will have a 24/7 internet radio, Rogers FM Radio, which will have two stations, religious and entertainment catering to all South Indian languages.

We will also have an internet TV, Rogers TV with religious and entertainment stations. We have made a schedule for one year.

The content that goes into the internet TV will be converted into audio and relayed on the radio. They are same as a normal radio, but difference is that it is on the internet.

How are you publicising your new venture?

We are looking at a highly focused media plan which will reach to our specific target group and with innovation in content, I believe that the product will speak for itself .

What is the commercial module in internet radio?

The future lies in internet radio and within five years, I am sure we will have made a mark as we will have the first mover advantage. The biggest advantage being, its measurable and justify the return on investment of the clients. We take products of our partners in business and offer them holistic media solutions. We will have a dedicated call centre to build a database of customers and offer them after sales service.

What are you immediate future plans?

We want to position ourselves as a complete solution provider for all our client needs. We also want to identify and nurture talent through Radio Jockey training and set up a dedicated institute for developing talent in other media discipline.

How will you tackle competition from the conventional FM stations?

The FM stations existing in the city cover only Bangalore and are full of clutter with low accountability but with the internet radio and TV, clients will get global exposure and creative solution.

How are you handling connectivity issues that are generally faced by users?

I have kept the speed at 96 kbps which is a balanced speed, not less and not more. So the listener should not have problems in terms of connectivity.
