Eleven students from four Chennai-based government schools participated in the annual ‘Youth Sports Leadership Camp 2012’, organised by the British Council in association with the Abhinav Bindra Foundation, from February 24 to 26, at the Thyagaraja Sports Complex, New Delhi.
Aswini, Shenbhagavalli and Mary, Class 9 students of Government High School Asthinapuram; Sathish Kumar, Arvind and Naveen Kumar, Class 11 students of Kannagi Nagar Higher Secondary School; Bharathi, Bhavani and Lavanya, Class 11, Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Girls Government Higher Secondary School and M Nithya and K Chitra Devi, Class 11, Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kamaraj Nagar, Avadi, took part in the programme, accompanied by one teacher from each school.
The programme provided an opportunity for the students to learn leadership qualities at sessions conducted by resource persons from the UK and eminent sports persons from India. They were given training to set up sports clubs and reach out to students of other schools. The main objective of the camp was to create interest in sports and to enhance participation. At the end of the programme, participants received certificates from Abhinav Bindra.
