BANGALORE: Embattled Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, Dr N Prabhu Dev received some respite as the Chancellor of the University and Governor of the state Hans Raj Bhardwaj came out in strong support of the V-C. He was speaking at a book release function for Prabhu Dev’s book ‘Here and There’.

“I have always stood by him. Only he could have managed the university,” said Bharadwaj. He lashed out at the recent spate of attacks on the V-C and said, “Could it ever be imagined that the Registrar will abuse the V-C,” asked Bharadwaj. He stated that the government should keep away from the administration of the University and leave it to academicians.

On asked about V-C being the target of many attacks during his term and of many accusations of mismanagement and caste politics being made against him, the Governor said, “From day one I can see appointments being made in order to harass the V-C. I have no powers to solve the  problems but I support Prabhu Dev.”

The Governor also hinted that Prabhu Dev must consider going back to medical profession as he was popular there. “We both are misfits in our professions. I am outspoken and many times I got messages from New Delhi asking me to stay quiet. I said don’t send me as a Governor I am happy being member of Parliament,” he said adding that the same advice applied to the VC as well.
