BANGALORE: Three persons including a bus driver, a woman and her son were killed and 12 sustained injuries when a KSRTC bus rammed into a sign board at Kunigal bypass in Nelamangala on the outskirts of the city on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Lokesh, 35, Hemavathi, 51, and her son Vasanth, 26. Meanwhile, Sharma, 47, and Sunil Kumar, 30, were severely injured and are being treated at a private hospital.

The other injured persons have been hospitalised. Police said the bus was carrying around 35 passengers from Bangalore from Chikmagalur. Police suspected that the bus driver was sleepy in the early hours and it might have resulted in the tragedy.

As the bus was over speeding, the driver lost control over the bus and rammed into the pole. Locals heard the sound and informed the police.

“One of the deceased Vasanth was ailing and was coming to the city for treatment at NIMHANS and his mother was accompanying him. Most of the passengers are natives of Chikmagalur,” the police added. Nelamangala police have registered a case in this connection.
