BANGALORE: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike has released a cheque of `7.5 crore to BWSSB to solve water problem in the city.

With the mounting pressure from the public to provide basic necessities like water during the summer, the BBMP on Wednesday released the amount to BWSSB for the purchase of 40 new tankers of 4,000 litre capacity each. The BBMP officials in each Zone have been directed to supply water to the remote areas through these tankers.

Nanjundappa said, “We are getting more complaints from newly-added wards. Therefore, we decided to supply water to those areas on priority basis with new tankers. Our officials have been asked to complete the work on water connection of all the 198 wards with new borewells, repair the existing ones and supply water through new pipes to all wards as early as possible.”

“Each ward has been given an additional Rs 25 lakh, out of which Rs 10 lakh will be used for maintenance, Rs 15 lakh for repair and replacing of pipes which get damaged due to road work. In process, if we notice any cases of drawing water illegally, we will take stern action against those responsible for it,” he explained.
