Sriram Engineering College, Perumalpattu, Tiruvallur, celebrated its 19th college day and sports day on Friday. K Nataraj, IPS (retd), chairman, Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, presided over the event.
In his presidential address the chief guest appealed to the students to use mind power for research and innovation instead of exhausting natural resources, so as to conserve nature and its beauty. He pointed out the importance of time management for success, citing the examples of great personalities such as Steve Jobs and Bobby Knight.
Dr V Vasanthi Devi, chairperson, Sriram Educational Trust, in her special address reflected on the stress faced by students due to the demanding educational system. Participating in various clubs and activities will not only help relax the mind and get rid of stress but also enable students to explore their talents, she said. Dr N K Baluchami, principal, welcomed the gathering. G Ramakrishnan, IAS (retd) trustee, SRET, Dr R B Kumar, trustee, and M D Balaji, secretary-trustee, participated.
The chief guest awarded medals and certificates to the student achievers in various areas during the academic year. The occasion came to a conclusion with a colourful cultural programme including dance, music and skits performed by the students.
