Astral 2012, the inter-collegiate cultural festival of Annai Veilankanni College, Saidapet, was held on March 8 and 9 on the college premises. The sixth edition of the annual event brought together multifaceted and talented youth from more than 25 colleges in the city.  

On day one, off-stage events such as Sollal Adi (word game), Style with Sparkle  (jewellery making), Second Life (recycling e-waste), Battle of Wits (quiz) mehendi, block and tackle, poster making and face painting, were conducted.

Day two had students show their talents on stage in a slew of competitions such as Battle of the Bands (light music), Test Your Toes (dance) and mime. The on-stage events were inaugurated by actor Jayam Ravi.

Secretary of the college Dr D Dev Anand welcomed the gathering. Dr S Devaraj, chairman, Annai Veilankanni Group of Educational Institutions, felicitated the chief guest and principal Dr Celestina gave an introduction to the programme.

The following celebrities judged the events: Guna of Flyerz Dance Academy; music director James Vasanthan; Rajkumar, director, Asatha Povathu Yaaru; Ranjith, news reader, Sun Tv; M C Komagan, Guinness record holding musician; Shakthi and Pooja, Airtel Super Singer contestants, and choreographers Andrea Jacob and John Vinu.

The curtain came down with the distribution of prizes by the chairman. JBAS College of Arts and Science bagged the rolling trophy and a cash prize of `1,00,000. Vice chairperson Delphin Devaraj, director Dr D Johny Christopher, joint secretary Sridevi Dev Anand, and vice principal Ann Brazil, presided over the programme.
