PSBB wins battle of wits

Kwizikl, a quiz competition for Class 5 students, was hosted by Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Egmore, recently. The quiz, aimed at providing the very young group   of students a chance to hone their knowledge, was conducted by quiz master Dr Sumanth C Raman. Teams of three each, drawn from about 20  schools in Chennai, participated in the competition. A total of nine schools made it to the finals: Don Bosco MHSS, Egmore, Good Shepherd Convent MHSS, Don Bosco Nursery and Primary School, Perambur, Sacred Heart MHSS, Fatima MHSS, Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School, Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan Senior Secondary School, Asan Memorial and MCC School.

The finals that consisted of 10 rounds of quizzing kept the participants on the edge of their seats.  

The teams were tested on memory, observation, logical thinking and puzzle solving. The quiz had             innovative rounds like guessing the musical          instruments, guessing the proverb from a picture puzzle, logos of companies, information technology, guessing movies from their background music and a rapid fire round.

The students of PSBB Senior Secondary School won the first prize and walked away with a DVD player each. The students of Sacred Heart emerged runners up and received an iPod each. The third place was won by the students of the host school. They won a video game each.

Fr John Alexander, rector and correspondent, Don Bosco MHSS, Egmore, said, “Children have an inherent sense of curiosity that kindles the discovery of the unknown and helps them to foray into the sea of knowledge.”

Kwizikl, the annual inter-school general knowledge quiz competition has been hosted by the school since 1982. The primary objective of the event is to create, enhance and sustain the awareness of the facts of this vast universe. It also aims to help in imprinting on young minds that knowledge is power and to encourage them to learn more.
