BANGALORE: Lokayukta police have made charges of corruption against West Zone BMTC Controlling Officer Venkataramanappa and driver Harish based on a complaint filed by BMTC driver Basavaraj B.

The complainant Basavaraj, who works at  BMTC 35 Depot, had requested for transfer to the 12th Unit Depot at Kengeri as he had to take his daughter for medical check-up at NIMHANS every day.

In spite of repeated requests, Venkataramanappa remained unresponsive. On March 27, Basavaraj went to the Controlling Officer’s office with another request for transfer.

Outside the office, he was stopped by Harish, another BMTC driver, who persuaded Basavaraj to pay a bribe of `6,000 to the officer.

The same day, the officer is said to have given consent to sign for Basavaraj’s transfer order. Later, Harish reminded Basavaraj to pay the bribe. Driver Harish was caught taking the bribe. He has been taken into custody along with officer Venkataramanappa. The accused have been booked under sections 7, 13(1)(d) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
