BANGALORE: The State government will come out with a new policy to streamline the advertisement revenue collection system in BBMP, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda told to the Karnataka Legislative Council on Thursday.

In a reply to JD(S) member M Srinivas’ question,  Gowda admitted that the BBMP’s advertisement revenue is not on the expected lines.

During 2007-2012, the total collection of advertisement revenue in BBMP, through the display of hoardings in the entire area, was accounted for Rs 132.03 crore as against the potential of over Rs 503 crore.

City Woes Figure in Assembly

Congress MLA N L Narendra Babu rued that the State Budget 2012 lacks vision and scientific planning as far as the growth of Bangalore city is concerned. “While roads are being widened, they, however, is being used either for parking of vehicles or malls,” Babu said, in the Assembly during a discussion on budget on Thursday.

Reiterating that increasing the area of BBMP by including the surrounding villages was a blunder, he said, “The city needs to be governed by two bodies - one each for core Bangalore and another for the periphery.”
