2 killed in accident

Two women were killed on the spot and five sustained injuries when a speeding lorry hit an autorickshaw on KR Road at Shivashankar Circle on Friday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Kamalamma, 55, and Hunnamalia, 60. The injured, Seetamma, 55, Maniamma, 30, Maariyamma, 35, Kuppamma, 40, and the auto driver Kumar, 27, sustained injuries and  were shifted to Victoria Hospital. They all are residents of Ambedkar Layout in Kadirenahalli.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 4 am when they were going to buy their supplies from KR Market. The auto-rickshaw driver Kumar was coming from KR Road, a speeding lorry (TN 31 AF 2524), which was coming from Basappa Road hit to the autorickshaw near KIMS Hospital.

In the accident, Kamalamma and Hunnamalia sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot while other five sustained injuries and were treated at the Victoria Hospital as outpatients, the police said.

According to an eye witness, the lorry was being driven rashly and Kumar tried to avoid the truck but  lost control due to over loading.

The autorickshaw toppled and two women, who were sitting beside Kumar were thrown out of the autorickshaw. The duo sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot.

It is said that all women were selling flowers for several years and they used to go to the market together in an auto everyday.

The Central Traffic police, who registered a case have arrested the lorry driver, M Rajaguru.
