Dasara celebrations go in full swing

The 500 year-old tradition of doll display will come alive on October 16 at Orion Mall

The tradition of doll display in Karnataka has considerably reduced in households and the current generation is seldom aware of the rich tradition. The youth of today, who frequent shopping malls will get a glimpse of the rich cultural heritage of Karnataka during the 10-day festivities of Dasara.

Thanks to RmKV Silks, Dasara at Orion Mall will be a joyous occasion and the 500 year-old tradition of doll display will come alive. The tradition was started during the reign of Vijayanagara dynasty and is called ‘Gombe Thottilu’. RmKV Silks has painstakingly created an area in Orion Mall where dolls are tastefully arranged, narrating different stories.

Apart from the doll display, with a view to promote local upcoming talent, RmKV has organised musical concerts during the 10-days of Dasara festivities. The programme will be held on the ground floor of Orion Mall, Rajajinagar between 7 and 8 pm. The Grand Finale will be a vocal recital by Sangeetha Kalanidhi Padmabhushan Dr R K Srikantan and Rudrapatnam Professor R S Ramakanth to be held on October 23 at the Amphitheater of Orion Mall between 6.30 and 8.30 pm.
