‘Wet waste to be sent directly to farmers’

All the eight zonal commissioners of the BBMP were asked to send wet waste to farmers from their respective zones, thus lessening the burden on landfill sites.

Deputy Mayor L Srinivas along with Commissioner Rajneesh Goel and other zonal commissioners held a meeting on Tuesday. At present, more than 300 lorries are sent to Mandur landfill sites. With this initiative, the number of vehicles will be reduced.

Speaking to Express, Srinivas said, “Wet waste is sent to farmers directly. We are giving `66 per tonne of wet waste as tipping charge to farmers. Farmers near Nelamangala, Channapatna, Chintamani and other surrounding places have come forward to take the wet waste.” From each zone, at least 10 compactors with wet waste will be sent to farmers.
