Painter murders wife, commits suicide

A painter murdered his wife over a family dispute and ended his life by hanging at their residence at Beereshwaranagar in Subramanyapura police station limits in the wee hours of Thursday.

The deceased, Vijay Bhaskar Reddy, 36, was a wall painter and his wife Lakshmi, 32, was a tailor at a garment factory.

It is said that Vijay called his brother-in-law Narayana Reddy residing at Gollarahatti in the morning and

told him that Lakshmi had committed suicide by hanging. Immediately, Reddy called some of his relatives and Vijay’s neighbours and asked them to rush to Vijay’s house.

Police said Vijay’s neighbours broke open the door of his house and found the bodies.  The couple had sent their three children to their grandparents’ house in Chittoor for vacation.

Vijay, a habitual drinker, had some financial problems and had pledged some of his wife’s jewels. This could have led to a quarrel between the couple, the police said.

The police added that Bhaskar Reddy bludgeoned his wife to death over a quarrel, and ended his life fearing arrest.

The Subramanyapura police have registered a case.
