Upset over her friend’s family harassing her, a teenager committed suicide at her home in Gollarahatti on the outskirts of the city on Sunday.
The deceased, Kalavathi, 18, used to work for a pickle factory in Anchepalya. Police said Kalavathi used to go to the factory along with Bhagyamma alias Yashu, who hails from her neighbouring village.
Recently, Yashu had eloped. It is said that Yashu’s family members accused Kalavathi of helping their daughter elope and used to enquire with her about Yashu. They had also abused her over the matter.
“On Sunday, some of Yashu’s family members allegedly assaulted Kalavathi at her house. Upset over this, she ended her life by hanging. She has written the names of Yashu’s family members who are responsible for her death on a Rs 10 note,” the police said. The Kudur police detained a person in this connection.
