Police assaulted for stopping car

Four unidentified men allegedly assaulted a traffic police sub-inspector and other police staff on Saturday night. Ramachandra, a PSI attached to Cubbon Park traffic station, was assaulted and was treated at Bowring Hospital.

According to the police, the police were checking drunken drive cases at Anil Kumble Circle.

Around 10.30 pm, four youths came from MG Road towards the circle in a car. Vishnu Pandit, another PSI with the same police station, stopped the vehicle to check them.

Meanwhile, the youths started arguing with Pandit and allegedly started moving the car. Ramachandra, who was at the spot, tried to stop the car. Irked by this, the four got down and punched Ramachandra.

“A Hoysala van which was passing by rushed to the help of the police. But the four attacked the police in Hoysala van and fled the scene leaving the car. Later, Ramachandra was treated at hospital and the car was seized. Ramachandra has filed an assault case against the four with Cubbon Park (law and order) police station. Going by their appearance, it seems they hail from an African country,” the police said.

Man killed after drunken brawl

A 25-year-old auto driver was killed after a drunken brawl with his friends near Nelamanagala on Saturday. The victim has been identified as Jagadeesh alias Katthe Jagga.

It is said that he was involved in illegal activities and had been sent to jail a couple of times. The accused are identified as Anil, 22, Seena, 24, Manja, 23, and Rayanahalli Maara, 26.

According to the police the incident came to light around 5 pm when a passersby noticed the body and informed the police. The incident took place around 11.30pm after they took him for a party and got him drunk.

Rayanahalli Mara, who was in an inebriated state picked up a quarrel with Jagga. In the melee four of them attacked him and killed him by smashing his head with a stone after taking off all his clothes.

Man jumps from third floor dies

Dejected over life a 30-yearold wholesale merchant committed suicide by jumping from the third floor in Sriramapuram police station limits on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Satishkumar.

According to the police, the incident took place around 8.30 am when he was alone at his house. He went to the terrace of his neighbouring building and jumped from the third floor. No suicide note was found.

Rs 75 lakh worth idol seized, 2 held

The Chamrajpet police have arrested two persons, who were trying to sell an antique idol worth Rs 75 lakh. The accused have been identified as Rizwan, and Nagaraja.

According to the police, the accused after stealing the idol from a temple in Boyanahalli in Anantpur district, were trying to sell it near Mysore Road. A passerby, who suspected that it could have been stolen informed the police, who nabbed them.
