Shop owner picked up for ‘terror links’

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police have picked up a mobile shop owner from Raichur for allegedly providing SIM cards to the arrested terror suspects, a police source said.

However, the police are yet to confirm his role in the alleged terror plans. “He has sold SIM cards to the terror suspects without proper verification of their documents. It appears that he has given them the SIM cards based on fake ID proofs and activated them. His name came out during interrogations of the suspects,” the source added.

“Most of the suspects obtained SIM cards from his shop. It led to the suspicion of the owner’s involvement. However, his exact role in their activities is yet to be ascertained,” they added.

“It is also common for mobile shop owners, especially in several parts of North Karnataka, to provide SIM cards to people without proper verification of documents,” the source added.
