The High Court on Tuesday directed the state government not to allow commercial activities in Kanteerava Indoor Stadium which is meant for sports activities.
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen and Justice B V Nagarathna passed the order while hearing a PIL filed by K Manjunath and others. They contended that the stadium is meant for sportspersons to practise and conduct sport tournaments.
However, it is being given for commercial purposes. This would disturb the sports persons as crowd would have gathered during sales and exhibitions. The petitioners sought strict directions to the state government not to commercialise the sports stadium.
Hearing the petition, Justice Sen asked the government why it was giving the sports stadium for commercial purposes and directed it not do so.
