Tamil Nadu CM inaugurates new maternity centre

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa inaugurated a maternity centre through video conference inside the Pollachi Government Hospital here on Tuesday.

The building was constructed at a cost of `75 lakh with 24 beds and antenatal clinic, antenatal outpatient ward, lab, ultra sound scanning rooms, operation theatre, and post operation ward.

This will enable the patients to avail all facilities under one roof.

The building construction started in 2010 and finished in 2012 January under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). According to sources, on Monday and Friday every week around 150 patients can go for scanning in the antenatal clinic.

Pollachi government hospital is the main centre where thousands of people from Valparai, Udumalai, Kinathukkadavu and Palakkad areas come regularly to get treatments for various diseases

The media were denied access to cover the inauguration ceremony.

District Collector M Karunakaran, Member of Parliament K Sugumar, Udumalai MLA Jayaraman, Pollachi MLA M K Muthukarupannasamy, Pollachi Sub Collector Ranjana, Pollachi Municipal chairman V Krishnakumar and doctors from the hospital participated in the function.
