Celebrate Ganesha festival in eco-friendly way: BBMP Commissioner

Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner Rajneesh Goel has requested people to celebrate an eco-friendly Ganesha and Gowri festival and save lakes.

A release from BBMP said that according to High Court orders, polythene buntings and banners that are harmful to environment should not be used.

Commissioner has appealed to the people to immerse Ganesha idols in the tanks allotted for the immersion in Ulsoor, Yediyur, Sankey tank and Saneguruvanahalli lakes.

The BBMP has made provision for immersion in 32 lakes in the city outskirts. The BBMP has arranged for immersion in mobile tanks and there are 88 such tanks where idols of small sizes can be immersed. The flowers, leaves, fruits used in the pooja should be segregated in the containers outside the lake.  It should not be mixed in the tank.

Crackers and loud music are not allowed during immersion. Immersion should be made before 10.30 pm.

The Commissioner appealed the people to use eco-friendly idols with vegetable colours.
