‘Ondu Jeevana Saladu’, the Kannada translation of veteran journalist Kuldip Nayar’s autobiography, was released in the city on Saturday. The book, originally written in English (Beyond the Lines) has been translated into Kannada by journalist Dr R Poornima.

Speaking on the occasion, Nayar said that the book encompasses a history of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh and his experiences during a lifetime of journalism.

Highlighting the qualities of politicians he had encountered during his career at many publications, he said that politicians of yesteryears had lofty ideals and all they ever thought of was the country.

Inferring the today’s politicians were more self and party centred, he said that both the Congress and BJP were ridden with corruption. He recounted a few moments from his past and added that it took a lot of efforts for people to build the country and its values from scratch.

He said the dependence on the West should come down. His book, which has already been published in English and translated into Hindi and Kannada, will soon be released in Marathi as well, he said
