The Lokayukta police on Wednesday trapped a police officer for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 2 lakh to proceed with a case pending in the police station.

A criminal case has been booked against Rajarajeshwarinagar Police Inspector H Hanumanthappa.

Complainant S Nataraj had registered a cheating case involving Rs 3 crore with the Rajarajeshwarinagar police.

Hanumanthappa allegedly demanded a bribe of 15 per cent of the amount to proceed with the case. Since the complainant was not willing to pay the bribe, he complained to the Lokayukta police.

They laid a trap and caught him red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh.
