'Demolish part of trust building'

The High Court on Wednesday directed the Tirumala Education Trust in Chikkakadugodi to demolish 60 percent of its building within a week.

Justice Ram Mohan Reddy passed this order while  hearing a petition filed by the trust to extend the stay order.

Earlier, during the hearing, counsel representing the trust stated that there are more than 3,000 students studying in the institution and if the building is demolished, it would affect the eduction of the students. He sought to regularise the unauthorized structures under ‘Akrama Sakrama’ scheme as it can be done to educational institutions.

Justice Reddy said that, it would not apply to this case and directed the trust to demolish the building within a week or the court may direct the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to demolish the building and take action against the official who had permitted the building violating building bylaws.

In 2005, the trust had taken BBMP’s permission to construct a school building. Later, the civic body had issued a notice for allegedly violating building bylaws. The trust had filed a petition against the BBMP.

The court had stayed the BBMP’s order.
