He cycled 800 km for a cause

Demanding that the state government take effective measures to safeguard the interests Kannadigas living in border areas, Subhash Bellubbi, president of Gadinadu Kannada Sahitya Parishat Jatha, cycled 800 kilometres from Jadara Babalada in Bijapur to Bangalore.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Subhash said he undertook the cycling expedition from Bijapur on September 17 and reached the city on September 26.

The expedition aimed to highlight the plight of Kannada speaking population in border areas. “We need five per cent employment reservation and the government has to negotiate with the Maharashtra government to resolve the water scarcity in our villages,” he said.

His other demands included scholarships for Kannada medium students and that problems faced by Kannadigas in border areas should be discussed in the coming 79th Akhila Bharatiya Kannada Sahitya Sammelana.
