Mayor B S Sathyanarayana said a committee will be constituted to check unauthorised optical fibre cables (OFC) laid in the city.

Yediyur ward Councillor N R Ramesh said: “Many tele-service providers in Bangalore are using Direct Buried Cable (DBC) method to lay the cables. This method is banned in other countries. In spite of that, they are digging roads across the city without taking permission from BBMP.” He added that the BBMP can at least collect ground rent from these providers. He also alleged that many officials are involved with the service providers and that is the reason these cables are laid across the city illegally.

Mayor Sathyanarayana said that a committee consisting of three BJP Councilors, one each from JD(S) and Congress will be constituted. The TVCC Chief Engineer will also be part of it. The committee will study unauthorised cables laid in the city and submit a report by this month-end.
