The Ministry of Human Resource Development has constituted an 18-member committee to improve the research performance of academic institutions.
The committee was entrusted with the job of reviewing the existing arrangement for funding research in academic institutions and ensure that resources for research are used to the best advantage.
It will develop a framework for excellence in research to ensure increased funding supports the country’s most talented researchers and most effective research institutions and departments and also to ensure that some of the country’s institutions reach global benchmarks in research performance.
The committee will be headed by secretary of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India K Vijay Raghavan and include 17 other members. The committee is expected to submit its report to the MHRD within a period of three months.
