Authorities are not bothered

Although Vasanthnagar comes across as a posh locality, however, a closer look reveals innumerable issues and one of the primary problems here is pertaining to footpaths, especially on the 8th Main Road.

Koya, shopkeeper said, “The footpath has been the same since many years. We have not seen any work being taken up. Earlier the footpaths were made of  boulders, now it is only temporary slabs. In many places, there are ditches."

Kavya, a student from Mount Carmel College said, “The smell is obnoxious. Neither the footpaths are laid properly nor the garbage is cleared on a regular basis. In fact, this is their dumping point everyday.”

“The contractors of the building that is under construction right beside my shop have taken permission from BBMP to remove the slabs of the footpath till their work is over. Once the work is complete, they will put back new slabs. However, that does not mean there is no illegal encroachment. Hotel tables have also encroached on the footpath,” says Koya.
