Velankanni Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Ashok Nagar, celebrated Perunthalaivar Kamaraj’s birth anniversary on Monday. The occasion saw the inauguration of the Tamil literary club.
Kumari K Mahadevan, orator, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, was the chief guest. S Padmanabhan Thirukkural Isaimamani was the guest of honour. Correspondent S Santhanamuthu, Principal of the Higher Secondary Section G Baby Kala and Principal of the primary section Usha Satheesh graced the occasion. Students from Class 5, 9 and 11 spoke about Kamaraj, while a dance performance was put up by students of the middle school and students of Classes 9 and 11 put up a skit on the former chief minister’s reforms in education.
The chief guest gave a speech on Kamaraj while the guest of honour spoke about the significance of the ancient Tamil language.
Santhanamuthu highlighted the achievements of the great leader and encouraged students and teachers to actively participate in the celebration. He gave away prizes to the winners of the intra-school English, Tamil and Hindi competition.
The programme ended with the singing of the national anthem.
