Lapses in Magadi PWD works

The House committee, headed by MLA Appu Pattanashetty, which was probing the Public Works Department scam in Magadi division of Ramanagaram taluk, submitted its final report to the Speaker on Friday. The probe indicated procedural lapses from the stage of budgetary allocation till the project execution.

The report, which looked into the alleged scam, estimated to be around `600 crore, indicated that close to 68 per cent of the 1,306 works were allocated to just four contractors, of which around 585 were allotted without approval of competent authorities.

“The then internal financial adviser and ex-officio special secretary had allotted funds beyond the sanctioned limits to Magadi division. PWD officials (including the then chief engineer) had inflated budgetary funds,”the report stated.

The committee demanded action against all officials involved and sought to recover the money ‘spent’ on such projects.
