Newly-weds commit suicide

A newly-wed couple committed suicide by consuming poison on Mahadevapura Ring Road early on Saturday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Anitha Mary (25), a resident of Banasawadi and Pandu (23), a resident of Dodda Banasawadi.

Police said Anitha and Pandu were in love for three years, but they did not reveal this affair to their parents as they belonged to different castes. On Thursday, Anitha resigned from work and left office and Pandu too left office around the same time. When she did not return home in the night, Anitha’s parents filed a missing person’s complaint with Banasawadi police station.

On Friday, the duo went to Dharmasthala, got married, and returned to the city by evening. Meanwhile, Anitha’s relatives went to her work place and learnt that she was in love with Pandu. They got his cell phone number and spoke to him and convinced him that they will arrange his marriage. On Friday, at 4 pm, Pandu called them back and told them that he will return home along with Anitha.

Early on Saturday, night beat police noticed them in an unconscious state in front of Maruthi Saw Mill and shifted them to a nearby hospital where they were declared brought dead.

Investigation revealed that both families had no problem with their affair and told the police that they could have agreed to their marriage.
