Row over varsity postings

An activist from Belgaum,  Ragavendra Joshi, alleged that proper procedures were not followed in the process of appointment of registrars and non-teaching staff at the Rani Chennamma University (RCU).

Joshi told reporters, “Registrar-administration Vishnukanth S Chatpalli and  registrar-evaluation J G Naik have been recruited in contravention f provision of Karnataka University Act and University Grant Commission. I have filed PIL in the High Court and the court has issued notice to the government and the university. A probe should be initiated into all such appointments,”  stated Joshi.

RCU Vice-Chancellor B R Ananthan said, “We have filled up posts lawfully as per vacancies notified. Naturally, not all applicants will get through when there are limited vacancies.”

He said the rules for horizontal recruitment were clear. “If it is a post meant for SC, it has to be for SC. Likewise for other social groups. We’ve done nothing wrong.” He also defended Vishnukanth S Chatpalli’s appointment.

“He has vast teaching experience. He is qualified to hold that post,” he said.
