Minister: State sixth in suicide cases

Minister for Youth Services, Fisheries and Ports K Abhaychandra Jain on Friday said Karnataka ranks sixth in suicide cases and Bangalore has been perceived as the suicide capital of India.

At a workshop on strengthening of mentor youth clubs and role of office-bearers of youth clubs in implementing Karnataka State Youth Policy for youth empowerment, organised by Jayaprakash Narayan National Youth Centre, he said:  “Policies that help youths are needed to bring about a change.”

According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), youths are involved in 54 per cent crime and 30 per cent of people who commit suicide are youths, he said and added that there is a need to address this issue. “Karnataka Knowledge Commission’s report will be taken into consideration to strengthen our youth policy,” he added.
