Indiranagar Club brings sports into sharp focus with its newly inaugurated facilities matching international standards
Sporting a new look

The new sports complex of Indiranagar club, which was inaugurated on Saturday, is a dream come true for many of the neighbourhood’s residents. With its state-of-the art facilities, spread over six floors, the complex is now pride of the place.

“This sports complex is a dream come true. All the club members and their families are thrilled,” Tom Thomas, a resident of Indiranagar, told City Express.

Talking about the facilities at the compelx, BNS Reddy, president of Indiranagar Club, said, “Here, we have five badminton courts that match international standards, a squash court, a pool table, a salon, indoor games facilities, four table tennis tables, four billiards tables and a cards table. The highlight of the complex is the gym area, which is around 4,000 sq ft and has the latest equipment. We also have a multi-purpose convention hall, fitted with an acoustic sound system, that can accommodate 100 people and a library.”

In his speech, at the complex’s inaugural function, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, “Coming from a rural background, I had a different perception about clubs. After seeing the facilities here, my mind-set about clubs has changed.” He is now an honourary member of Indiranagar Club.

Apart from the extensive sports facilities that have been added, the club too has undergone a makeover and with new guest rooms and suites. It now wears a green look with over a hundred tall trees and pretty gazebos installed for patrons to enjoy the view from. Amid this greenery is  Maitrivana which houses the swimming pool. Maitrivana has been beautified by murals.

Currently, the club has 4,000 members and 12,000 dependent members. “We also have corporate giants as members of our club,” Reddy said.

For BNS Reddy, the club is like his second home. As the president, he takes time out from his busy schedule and makes sure he participates in the developmental activities of the club. “Though the idea of this sports complex is mine, there are hundreds of people without whose support it would have been impossible to realise it. At the end of the day, ideas can come to fruition only after discussions with various members and a unanimous decision. That is what a leader needs to do. Now, the job of maintaining the place starts. It needs round-the-clock attention which is a Herculean task,” said Reddy.

The new facilities will be open from July 1.
