Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday ordered the release of water for irrigation from three dams - Periyar dam in Theni district, Amaravathi dam in Tirupur district and Bhavanisagar dam in Erode district - from Friday.
The water from the Periyar dam will benefit 14,707 acres in Cumbum valley and in the taluks of Theni, Uthamapalayam and Bodinaickanur.
The release of water from the Amaravathi dam will cater to the needs of farmers in Tirupur district and 7,520 acres will be benefited.
The water from the Bhavanisagar dam will fulfil the requirement of 24,504 acres of lands along Arakkankottai and Thadapalli canals.
