Dry Eye Lab launched

Diagnosing eye-related diseases among Bangaloreans will become easier, thanks to the new ‘Dry Eye Lab’ that was launched by Narayana Nethralaya recently.

“Using the technique ‘tear test’, diseases can be diagnosed and treated,” said Dr Rohit Shetty, vice-chairman, Narayana Nethralaya.

He added that research had been going on to test the proteins present in tears and use them for diagnosing conditions, analogous to urine or blood tests. “There are over 10,000 proteins that have to be explored. We have already identified some proteins like the MMP 9 which have the ability to damage the cornea,” he said.

Speaking of the newly inaugurated lab, Shetty said,  “We also have facilities for thermal pulsation therapy for patients with eyelid problems.”
