Doctors treating Jyothi Uday, the 44-year-old bank manager mugged in an ATM kiosk on Tuesday, said on Wednesday she would take months to recover.”

Our primary concern is the paralysis of her right hand and right leg,” Dr NK Venkataramana, chief neurosurgeon and vice-chairman, BGS Global Hospitals, told reporters.

Jyoti Uday has suffered two fractures on her head, besides injuries on her nose, lips and cheeks. “A CT scan revealed a fracture on her skull. A bone fragment has entered her brain on the right, impacting her right hand and leg movement,” explained Dr Venkataramana.Surgeons removed the fragments during a four-hour operation. “Her vital parameters are good and she is out of danger,” he said.

A worry, however, is that her brain may swell if infection follows the surgery. That could lead to convulsions, a doctor said.On Tuesday, Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar, Home Minister K J George and Women and Child Welfare Minister Umashree visited the hospital.

Plastic surgeon Dr Madhusoodan said the mugger’s chopper slash had cut her lips and nose and reached her eyes. “We have corrected her face,” he said.
