The Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum has been abuzz with children and mathematical activity as a unique exhibition on mathematics started on Friday. ‘Mathematics for Planet Earth’ aims to excite youngsters about mathematics and its uses in everyday life.

Dr Amit Apte, faculty at ICTS-TIFR and one of the organisers, said, “Mathematics provides the language to describe a vast number of processes and the power to describe them. This exhibition mainly aims to create excitement in visitors and we hope they would like to explore these subjects after they go home.”

The exhibition, which will continue till December 2, has been organized by a team from ICTS-TIFR and the TIFR Centre for Applicable Mathematics along with the VITM and Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology. At the inauguration of the exhibition, Prof Roddam Narasimha said “Curiosity for mathematics among Indian school children is high but most of them do not pursue the subject later. Exhibitions like these are a better way to interest children.”

It is on till 2nd of December at VITM, from 10 am to 6 pm.
