For most women, clean, silky hair is a major booster. Women feel more confident and happy when their hair looks and feels good.

According to a recent survey, one out of four women has avoided an activity due to unruly hair and 88 percent say good hair boosts their confidence.

So what do you do to get those gorgeous tresses. Massage your hair and then go for a long shower. Even though shampooing helps most of us get rid of dirty oil hair, the chemicals in it can have adverse effect on the quality of the hair. U S based researchers identified 10,500 industrial chemicals used as cosmetic ingredients, including carcinogens, pesticides, reproductive toxics, endocrine disruptors, plasticizers, degreasers and surfactants in shampoos.

So instead of spending a fortune on hair products, opt for cheaper, chemical free substitutes to keep your hair healthy.

Whip up a hair pack: What is better than a home made hair pack for your tresses. For that shine and bounce you can try a hair pack with baking soda. Mix one tablespoon of baking soda with two tablespoon of water. Apply the mixture on your scalp and let it sit for atleast 15 minutes. Rinse properly for beautiful hair.

Apple cider vinegar also makes for a great cleanser. Dilute it before using as it can make your hair dry and brittle.

Mud wash, an organic product made of  clay minerals, botanical extracts and essential oils is also a great substitute for shampoos. Not only a cleanser, it strengthens your hair, prevents breakage and itchy scalp.  This also makes the hair easier to detangle and moisturises dry hair.

The Bentonite clay in the mud wash is a ‘detoxifier’ and an effective cleanser.

Beer anyone?: There is nothing like a glass of old beer for beautiful hair. It is a good cleanser and adds body to your hair. Wash your hair and then rinse it with beer for best results.

Go organic: With olive oil as its prime ingredient, castile soap is a good cleanser. Made with natural ingredients, it gives you frizz free hair after every wash.

Egg comes to your rescue:  Egg yolk washes your hair nicely and is absolutely natural. Just separate the yolk from the white, rub a little on your scalp and let it sit for several minutes before rinsing it with luke warm water.  It makes your hair shiny, silky and promotes hair growth.

Power of herbs: Gurhal (hibiscus rosa) can be used in case of pre-mature hair fall and greying of hair as it stimulates hair growth and controls excessive hair fall. To make a simple hair pack, take dried up hibiscus flower and grind it to make a powder. Mix it with water to make a paste and apply it on your scalp.
